Anodized titanium is the only “colored metal” in body jewelry that never chips, peels or fades – because the color is not a coating at all. Understanding how it works helps you sell it, QC it, and answer the one question every customer asks: “will the color come off?”<\/em><\/p>\n

The physics in one paragraph<\/h2>\n

Titanium exposed to air grows a transparent oxide layer a few nanometers thick. Anodizing applies voltage to grow that layer to a precise thickness. The layer is transparent; light bounces off both its top and the metal beneath, and the two reflections interfere – cancelling some wavelengths and amplifying others. The “color” is interference, exactly like a soap bubble. There is no dye, no plating, nothing that can wear off.<\/p>\n
